DENTY PIAWAI NASTITIE

Hey! I am Denty, an award-winning journalist with more than a decade of experience covering politics, sports, economics, and the voices of communities that are often overlooked. I hold a Master’s degree in Religion in Global Politics and over the years, I’ve built strong networks across government, media, NGOs, and civil society.
My love for journalism started young. When I was a child, my father told me that journalists have the power to make the world a better place. Those words stuck with me. While my friends dreamed of becoming pilots or doctors, I knew from early on that I wanted to tell stories that matter.
For the past ten years at Kompas, I’ve seen firsthand how stories can spark conversations and even inspire change. In 2017, I published Rainbow over the Middle East’s Sky (Pelangi di Timur Tengah)—a photo-book capturing diversity and harmony in Jerusalem and Bethlehem, inspired by a journey I took with my family. Later, my coverage of The 2018 Asian Para Games, Athletes’ Fight for Equality earned the European Union Award for Journalists in Indonesia, highlighting the struggles and resilience of athletes with disabilities.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: storytelling can open minds and bring people closer together. If you’d like to follow along with my writing journey, and see how stories can shape change, come hang out with me on Instagram @dentyonduty.
